MIRIK

So, if you are coming to Darjeeling, a day excursion to Mirik from Darjeeling will be a very good plan as Mirik has a lot of places to visit: One can either go for a boat ride on the calm lake or stroll in lush green tea gardens or gaze at the beautiful snow-capped range of the Himalayan mountains. HOW TO REACH MIRIK

Mirik is around 46 Km away from Siliguri. You can reach this beautiful place from any part of India and as well as from other countries by taking the Bagdogra Airport or NJP station which is 55 km away from Mirik and will just take 1.5 hours to get there.

By Air: Bagdogra is near the airport from where it takes one around 48 km to get to Mirik. From the airport one can book a taxi or Cab to reach Mirik, which will take 2 hours.

By Train: Mirik does not have its own train station, but the nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP), which is around 50 km away from Mirik. From NJP, you can hire a taxi, bus, or shared jeep to reach Mirik.

By Road: Mirik is well connected by Road from Siliguri, Darjeeling or Gangtok. So, if you want to visit the place in your own car, you will not face any problem. While driving, you will enjoy the panoramic views of the surrounding hills and tea gardens.

BEST TIME TO VISIT MIRIK

Mirik is situated at a height of 1767meter from sea level, which makes its weather pleasant and comfortable throughout the entire year. Therefore, visiting Mirik is possible for the entire year, but it is advisable to visit during March – May and September – November. These months are relative to cool, which makes it an appropriate time for tourists to visit the site for sightseeing among other activities. The summers are not extremely hot, as the temperature rarely rises to above 30 degrees Centigrade while autumn promises clear skies for the views of the mountain chains.

Winter (December-February): But the winter is severe but not like other hill stations that are located at higher levels of altitude, the temperature never falls below freezing point. Woolen clothes are essential for winter times.

Monsoon (June-September): This place normally gets flooded during monsoons. However, this part of the Himalayas is less favorable for large landslides due to lower elevation with adequate road network facilities.
