About Lebong

Lebong:

Lebong is a valley locality in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal, India, located about 8 km from Darjeeling town (Mall Road) on the road descending toward the Rangeet River and elsewhere. It includes areas like Lebong Race Course, Golai Bazaar, and several tea gardens including Ging, Badamtam, and Phoobshering. 

How to reach Lebong:

By Air: The most practical way to reach Lebong is to first fly into Bagdogra Airport (IXB) near Siliguri, which has frequent flights connecting major Indian cities. From Bagdogra, you can hire a taxi or private car to travel up toward Darjeeling town; this road journey typically takes around 3½ to 4 hours. Once in Darjeeling, Lebong is just a short distance away deeper into the valley.

By Train: If you’re travelling by train, the nearest major railway station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP), which is well connected to cities like Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, and others. After arriving at NJP, you can book a car or taxi — shared or private — to Darjeeling. The road trip from NJP to Darjeeling usually takes about 3½ to 4 hours, and from Darjeeling you can take a local taxi or cab down to Lebong.

By Road: If you are already travelling by road, Lebong is easily accessible from both Siliguri and Darjeeling. From Siliguri, the drive to Lebong via Kurseong, Ghoom, and Darjeeling covers roughly 75–80 km and takes around 3½ to 4 hours by private car or taxi. From Darjeeling town, Lebong lies only about 8 – 9 km downhill, and the short road trip of around 20–30 minutes on a paved hill road will take you into the valley area.

Spring (March–April), Summer (May–June), and Autumn (October–November) are the best seasons to visit Lebong. These months offer clear weather, green landscapes, and good visibility of the valley and surrounding hills.

 Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Lebong is from March to June and October to November, when the weather remains pleasant and the valley stays clear. Located just below Darjeeling town, Lebong opens into a wide green valley with tea gardens and open slopes. Early mornings often begin with mist lifting from the valley floor, revealing layers of hills. On clear days, you may also catch distant views of Kanchenjunga. Monsoon turns the valley deep green but brings clouds and rain.
