The HMI (Himalayan Mountaineering Institute) was found by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of Independent India on 4th November, 1954. Now HMI is one of the leading mountaineering institute in india.

Tiger Hill is famous for the view of Mt. Khanchendzonga at the time of Sunrise. Batasia Loop is about 5 kilometers from Darjeeling town. This Batasia Loop is a spiral railway which was created to lower the gradient of the ascent of Darjeeling Himalayan Railway in Darjeeling district of West Bengal.
