Rolep

Rolep is a small hamlet located in Old Silk Rout area of Pakyang district in Sikkim state. Being less known to people it is less crowded till now, though this place is becoming notable among nature lovers day by day. The lively Rongpo Khola or Rongpo River flows over this village to make it more alluring.

How to reach Rolep

Nearest Airport : Bagdogra Airport is the nearest airport from Rolep. The distance from Bagdogra to Rolep is about 141 kilometres by road and takes more or less 7 and half hours to reach. It is suggested not to travel so much distance in remote hill area. It is better to stay 1 night in any other place situated in between Bagdogra airport and Rolep.

Actually Pakyong Airport is the near most from Rolep, but it is not accessible from all the cities.

Nearest Railway Station : NJP or New Jalpaiguri Railway Station is the near most railway station from Rolep. From NJP to Rolep it is about 137 kilometres by driving and takes more or less 6 and half hours to reach. It is suggested not to travel so much distance in remote hill area. It is better to stay 1 night in any other place situated in between NJP Railway Station and Rolep.

What to see in Rolep

1) Rongli : Rongli is a small town and check point to visit Sikkim Silk rout. Rongpo Khola also flows over this town. It is about 29 kilometers by road from Rongli to Rolep and take more or less 1 and half hour to reach.

2) Zuluk : Zuluk is one of the most popular destinations of Old Silk Rout. The famous zigzag road is visible from zuluk only. It is about 60 kilometers by road from Rolep to zuluk.

3) Padamchen : Padamchen is another well known destination in Silk rout. Padamchen is about 50 kilometers by road from Rolep.

4) Nathang Valley : Nathang valley or Gnathang valley is the highest tourist destination for staying in the entire Silk rout area. Being situated in high altitude it is known as snow falling zone among travellers.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Rolep is from March to May and October to November, when the weather remains clear and the valley is easier to explore. Rolep is a small village set deep inside a forested valley, known for its waterfalls, streams, and dense greenery. It feels more remote compared to other Silk Route stops. Monsoon brings strong water flow but also heavy rain and slippery roads.
