Pedong is a small village near Kalimpong, West Bengal. As this village is nearer to Kalimpong, you can take a one day trip from Kalimpong to Pedong or you can stay there. ‘Damsang Fort’ is the most popular tourist attraction in Pedong. The village is made up of Lepcha community mainly. The Last Lepcha King Gyabo Achyok used this fort to run his kingdom. But now the fort is not in use for so many years that naturally it resulted in ruins. To preserve the fort, the local Lepcha Community has been built up an association and this association has been taken the responsibilities to renovate the fort and make this fort as a major historical tourist attraction. The popular fair ‘Chaitey Mela’ held on here every year at the time of ‘Ramnavami ‘ in the month of April. You also can find out an old Bhutanese monastery, known as Sangchen Dorjee Gompa. ‘Chaam’, a popular religious and cultural dance program helds in this monastery every year.
