Jaldapara National Park is a popular tourist destination situated at the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas in the Alipurduar District of West Bengal. This area is popularly known as Dooars and lies along the banks of the river Torsa. The park is famous for the great Indian one-horned rhinoceros. The Toto and Mech tribes are the ancestral communities of Jaldapara, and the area previously known as 'Toto Para' is now one of the most attractive tourist destinations for visitors to experience their culture. You can enjoy both jeep and elephant safaris to explore the forest and its wildlife. The main attraction of Jaldapara National Park is the Indian one-horned rhinoceros. In addition to this iconic animal, the park is home to a large number of Indian leopards, elephants, spotted deer, barking deer, hog deer, sambars, gaurs, and more. The national park is also a paradise for bird watchers, featuring a variety of birds, including peacocks, Bengal floricans, crested eagles, lesser pied hornbills, and many others.

 

How to reach Jaldapara

By Air: The nearest airport to Jaldapara is Bagdogra Airport (IXB), located approximately 150 kilometers away. This well-connected airport operates flights from major cities across India, including Kolkata, Delhi, and Mumbai. From Bagdogra Airport. You can hire a private taxi or take a bus.

By Train: The nearest railway station to Jaldapara is New Jalpaiguri (NJP), situated about 150 kilometers away. This major railway hub is well-connected to various parts of India, making it an excellent choice for travelers. From New Jalpaiguri Station. You can hire a private taxi or take a bus.

By Road: Traveling by road is also a viable option if you prefer driving or wish to enjoy the scenic beauty of the surrounding regions. It is around 130 kilometers from Siliguri.  For those starting their journey from Kolkata, it is approximately 600 kilometers to Jaldapara. This road trip typically takes about 12-15 hours by car, depending on traffic. You can take NH12 and NH27 for the most direct route.

Chilapata Forest - Chilapata Forest is situated in Between Jaldapara Wild life Sanctuay and Buxa Tiger Reserve. The forest is used as Elephant corridor in between Jaldapara National Park and Buxa Tiger Reserve

Toto Para - Toto Para is a primitive tribal village situated at the bank of river Torsa and River Titi near Jaldapara National Park. You can find their calture and heredity there

Buxa Tiger Reserve - Buxa Tiger Reserve is located in Alipurduar District in the Eastern Himalaya. You can find there many animals like Leopard, Bengal Tiger, Gaur, Sambar Deer, Asiatic Elephants etc. Created in 1983, Buxa Tiger Reserve is 15th tiger reserve in India. The 4th shift of safari includes lite snacks and tribal dance. Therefore the last safari costs approx. Rs.500 more per Gypsy.

* There is no popular watch tower concept. It is just a jungle safari and there are a few small watch towers from where tourists can watch wildlife.

 

 Elephant Safari (Jaldapara Side):

There are two popular elephant safari routes in the Jaldapara region:

      Jaldapara

      Chilapata

Per person charge: 1200.

      Tickets must be booked one day in advance. Same-day tickets are not issued.

Tourists can reach the elephant safari points by:

      Private vehicle, or

      Rented vehicle

Since the drive to the safari point is inside the core forest, a guide is mandatory, and the guide charge is 350.

Safari Information (General):

1)     One Gypsy can accommodate up to 6 persons.

2)     For all safaris (except Dhupjhora Elephant Safari), a guide is mandatory.

3)     Tourists must carry 2–4 photocopies of a valid identity card along with the original.

4)     ** All safaris across Dooars remain closed on Thursdays.

5)     From 15th June to 14th September, all safaris remain closed due to the monsoon season.

The best time to visit Jaldapara is from November to April, when the weather remains clear and the park is open for safaris. Known for Jaldapara National Park, the area is dominated by grasslands and forest patches, making it one of the best places in the region for wildlife viewing. Monsoon leads to park closure due to heavy rain.
