Harsil

Harsil is a quiet, picturesque village located on the banks of the Bhagirathi River in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. At an altitude of 7,860 feet (2,620 meters), Harsil is surrounded by snow-capped mountains, pine forests, apple orchards, and clear skies, making it one of the most serene destinations in the Garhwal Himalayas.

How to Reach Harsil

• By Road:

  • Delhi to Harsil – Approx. 470 km (12–13 hrs via Rishikesh & Uttarkashi)

  • Dehradun to Harsil – Approx. 230 km (8–9 hrs)

  • Uttarkashi to Harsil – Approx. 72 km (2–3 hrs)

• By Train: The nearest railway station is Dehradun. From there, taxis or buses can take you to Harsil via Uttarkashi.

• By Air: The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport (Dehradun), around 232 km from Harsil.

 What to See Around Harsil

1. Dharali Village – 6 km
   Known for its beautiful apple orchards, scenic river views, and peaceful vibes.

2. Mukhwa Village – 1.5 km
   The winter home of Goddess Ganga, with traditional wooden homes and local culture.

3. Sattal of Harsil – 3–4 km trek
   A cluster of seven hidden lakes surrounded by alpine forests — ideal for short hikes.

4. Nelang Valley – ~40 km (Permit required)
   A stark, high-altitude valley with Tibetan-like landscapes, open seasonally to tourists.

5. Bhagirathi River Viewpoints – All around
   Peaceful riverside spots ideal for relaxation, photography, and meditation.

Best Time to Visit

• April to June: Pleasant weather, perfect for hikes and exploring nature.

• September to early November: Crisp air, clear views, and beautiful fall colors.

• Winter (Dec–Feb): Snowfall transforms Harsil into a white wonderland (many places may be shut or difficult to access).

Note: The route to Gangotri usually closes in late November due to heavy snowfall.
