Dooars or Duars is one of the best tourist destinations at the Foothill of Eastern Himalaya. The place is a beautiful combination of Mountain, Tea Gardens, Forest and River Bank. All the flavors of the  nature you can relish at the different part of this vast region. Different types of flora and fauna you can encounter while exploring the forest. How to reach Dooars

By air: Bagdogra Airport (IXB). As Dooars is stretched a wide range of West Bengal, the different places will take different time to reach tthere. Minimum time duration will be more or less 2 hours.

By Train: New Jalpaiguri Railway Station. As Dooars is stretched a wide range of West Bengal, the different places will take different time to reach tthere. Minimum time duration will be more or less 2 hours. There are also some local stop Station, from where you can reach Dooars more easily.  

By Road: The major entry points are from Siliguri, approximately 80 kilometers away. You can take National Highway 27 (NH27) or National Highway 12 (NH12) to access Dooars. 

  1. Gorumara National Park – One of the most popular wildlife destinations in North Bengal, famous for Indian one-horned rhinoceros, elephants and bison.
    Jeep safaris and watchtower visits are the main attractions.
  2. Jaldapara National Park – Renowned for its large population of one-horned rhinoceros and rich wildlife diversity.
    Elephant safaris offer a unique way to explore the grasslands.
  3. Buxa Tiger Reserve – Vast forest reserve known for wildlife, trekking routes and rich biodiversity.
    The reserve is also home to the historic Buxa Fort.
  4. Buxa Fort – Historic fort associated with India's freedom movement.
    A scenic trek through the forest leads to the fort ruins.
  5. Jayanti – Picturesque riverside destination located beside the Jayanti River and Buxa Hills.
    Known for its peaceful atmosphere and mountain views.
  6. Jhalong – Scenic village situated on the banks of the Jaldhaka River near the Indo-Bhutan border.
    The Jhalong Hydel Project is a major attraction here.
  7. Bindu – Last village on the India-Bhutan border in the Dooars region.
    Famous for the Bindu Dam and beautiful river valley views.
  8. Suntalekhola – Quiet forest destination known for its hanging bridge, river streams and nature trails.
    Ideal for birdwatching and peaceful nature stays.
  9. Rocky Island – Popular riverside destination near Samsing surrounded by forests and hills.
    Known for camping, rock climbing and riverside picnics.
  10. Samsing – Beautiful hill village surrounded by tea gardens, forests and orange orchards.
    Offers excellent views of the surrounding Dooars landscape.
  11. Murti River – Scenic river flowing through the forests of Gorumara and Chapramari.
    A popular spot for picnics, photography and evening walks.
  12. Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary – Wildlife sanctuary known for elephants, deer, bison and birdlife.
    Watchtowers provide excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing.
  13. Lataguri – Main gateway to Gorumara National Park and nearby forest attractions.
    Most safari bookings and forest stays are concentrated here.
  14. South Khayerbari Nature Park – Wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centre near Buxa.
    Known for leopard and tiger rescue enclosures.
  15. Mendabari Watch Tower – Popular forest watchtower offering wildlife sightings and panoramic forest views.
    Best visited during morning safari hours.

Weather & Best Time to Visit

Dooars is the gateway to the Eastern Himalayas and stretches across the foothills of North Bengal. The region is famous for its wildlife reserves, dense forests, tea gardens, rivers, and scenic countryside. The best time to visit is between October and April when the forests remain accessible and wildlife sightings are more common. The monsoon season transforms the entire region into a lush green landscape with overflowing rivers and dense forest cover.
